The Lien Collaborative Story of India

“Every village healer, every nurse who joins us—they’re the true heroes,” says project lead Anika Mehta. “We’re just lighting the torch they carry forward.”

In many rural areas of India, palliative care was previously considered inaccessible, available only in large urban centers. Now, the Lien Collaborative is working to close this gap. By training local doctors, nurses, and community workers, the program provides healthcare professionals with the skills needed to offer compassionate care to patients and families dealing with serious illnesses.

The benefits extend beyond medical treatment. Caregivers are being taught to listen attentively, provide comfort, and respect patients’ dignity—assuring them they are not alone. Through this initiative, thousands of healthcare workers have been trained, bringing relief and hope to families in communities where such support was once limited.

Although challenges like scarce resources and the stigma around end-of-life care persist, the Collaborative continues to expand through strong partnerships that combine international expertise with local dedication. Gradually, it is creating a future where quality palliative care is available to everyone—one caregiver, one patient, and one family at a time
